Carer and Recreational Therapist for the people living with Dementia

What do I offer?

Firstly I am a carer in any capacity.  I am qualified in NVQ Level 3 and 4 in Health & Social Care.  Caring comes in many forms and I believe I approach this in many different ways,  depending on the person I am caring for.  Over time It has become clear that dementia comes as a shock to anyone.  As the disease progresses distress and worry become a main part of the lives of the sufferer and their family and friends.   Over time the disease can make the person and relatives feel isolated and this is where reassurance and support is needed.  Whether it be in a nursing/care home setting or one to one care can make a considerable difference.

I am a skilled and trained coordinator that enhances the quality of life be it a mobile client to end of life.  I pride myself on excellent training coupled with many years of teaching experience giving me the knowledge and skills needed to deliver this work.

Activity helps to sustain both physical and mental health, so it is important that older people living in care homes are able to maintain interests and have opportunities to develop new ones. The challenges of providing good care for older people with complex needs in care home settings, as well as the culture of the care home, can result in staff prioritising practical tasks above supporting people to take part in meaningful activities, with Mind Function I tailor the need of the client.

What are the first steps in identifying the right program.

I assess the needs of the service users and to provide the appropriate staff to meet their needs,  usually I prepare deliver and evaluate each session.

Where does this fit with Care Quality Commission (England)or

Care Inspectorate Wales (wales)

Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014: Regulation 18

The intention of this regulation is to make sure that providers deploy enough suitably qualified, competent and experienced staff to enable them to meet all other regulatory requirements described in this part of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

I am a person that works for private companies and for myself and my days can be very different.

I work with individuals by gaining knowledge of their life stories, interests and experiences and combined with their current level of cognitive, psychological and physical ability we have a personalised activity program.

This system I offer improves their quality of life.  It encourages conversation between myself and anyone that is living with Dementia.  It gives them the confidence to want to communicate.  It brings forward skills that you may otherwise think are dormant.
